O-Rings by Material
PTFE O-Rings (Teflon®)
PTFE O-rings provide near-universal chemical resistance across an extreme temperature range — from cryogenic to +260 °C. Unlike elastomer O-rings, PTFE seals do not recover elastically, so they require controlled compression in a groove.
Properties
Key Properties
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Temperature Range | −200 °C to +260 °C |
| Hardness Range | 55–65 Shore D (not Shore A — PTFE is a rigid plastic, not an elastomer) |
| Resists | Virtually all chemicals, solvents, fuels, acids, bases, steam, cryogenic fluids, oxygen |
| Avoid | Molten alkali metals, elemental fluorine at high temperature. Note: PTFE has no elastic memory — permanent deformation under load (cold flow) |
| Typical Applications | Chemical processing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, cryogenic, semiconductor, laboratory equipment, aggressive-media valve sealing |
| Available Standards | AS568 dimensions, ISO 3601, FDA 21 CFR 177.1550, EC 1935/2004, USP Class VI |
