FEP/PFA Encapsulated O-Rings
An FEP encapsulated O-ring is a standard elastomer O-ring core fully jacketed in FEP (or PFA) fluoropolymer film — combining the chemical inertness of a fluoropolymer surface with the elastic recovery of a rubber core, which fluoropolymer alone cannot provide.

Overview
Why encapsulate an O-ring
PTFE and FEP have almost no elastic memory, so a solid fluoropolymer O-ring struggles to maintain sealing force once compressed. Encapsulation solves that: the FEP jacket presents a chemically inert, low-friction surface to the process fluid, while the elastomer core underneath supplies the spring-back that keeps the seal loaded — giving near-PTFE chemical resistance with much closer to normal O-ring sealing behaviour.
Materials
Which core, and why
Silicone (VMQ) core
Where the lowest achievable temperature matters more than compression-set life.
FKM (Viton) core
Where long-term compression-set recovery and higher continuous temperature matter more.
Sizing
Standards covered
Available in metric and imperial international standard sizes including AS568, DIN ISO 3601 and JIS.
Applications
Where used
Primarily static seals in aggressive-chemical service — process piping, valves, chemical pumps — where a standard elastomer O-ring would be attacked by the media but solid PTFE would not seal reliably on its own.
